Why am I charged a $0.30 handling fee when I purchase your books?
Even though we have a Verified Premier Business Account with PayPal we are charged $0.30 per transaction plus a couple percent of the amount. Since our authors receive 75% of sale proceeds we would take a monetary loss in every transaction below $1.25. Since over half of the ebooks listed here are $0.99 we were forced to do this. You will not be charged this for free ebooks. Hopefully in the very near future we'll figure something better out.
How much do I make as an Author on your site?
You make 75% of each sale. Period. No hidden fees.
How will I know how much I'm making?
Our shopping cart has a user entry like an affiliate sales site. You log in. You see the sales of your books. You see the current royalty split. We can't change it without opening a new shopping cart so what you see is what you get.
When will I be paid, and how?
At the end of every month. Between the 28th and the 30th/31st. You will be paid by paypal or a check will be mailed to you. That is the least expensive method for us to get you your money, and a check is just as quick as paypal's 2-3 day bank deposit.
Will you be promoting your new site?
Why of course! Our webmaster is the administrator of 158 sites not including Erotic Escapes Ebooks and it's satellites. He is a master of SEO.
How can I contact you if I have a question? Email?
You can email sure, but you'll also have my personal cell number, and I answer my cell. I'm here for you. This is my dream and together we'll make it happen.
Will I receive any advertising for myself as an author?
Yes. You will receive an authors page like mine at http://www.eroticescapesebooks.com/authors/dccole.php. My web guy is finishing it but you can put links and your books, and everything on it. Also, it will all be tied into our SEO strategies.
Can I tell my author friends and others about your site?
OMG are you crazy? Of course! Please please do.
I have many books I intend to put on your site. Do I need to submit the submission form for every one?
Of course. Or. If it's really a bunch just email or call us and we'll sit down with you and get it all done without all that. Really, it's whatever works best for you.
I write in more than one genre under different pen names, how will that work on your site?
Easy. one account and it will be tied to all your pen names. . Each account receives a a special code that's entered in the buy string on the page for the shopping cart. All your sales would be combined, so one check, one account.
I don't have a website. Can I still have an author page?
Yes. WE insist on it. Our webmaster MAY create a seperate website for you if you ask. It really depends on how busy he is. Or there are other services out there if you feel you need a seperate site to promote yourself more.
My books are already on amazon. Can't you simply link to them?
We could. But we won't. We have no intention of becoming an Amazon affiliate. The cookies are almost non-existent and the percentage the same. There's no way to observe any kind of profit margin unless we push thousands of new customers through to amazon every week. Our site is an avenue, or alternate venue for YOU to make additional sales. You ebook on our site can be sold in more than just the kindle format. This WILL increase sales for you. Up to you though. We are primarily here to help and offer a viable alternative.
I have an idea on how your site could be better. Can I share it with you without offending you?
Of course. Actually I LOVE ADVICE! I expect all our authors to be open and honest with me. Bring it on!
Will you eventually be providing affiliate sales?
Probably, and that's a good question. OUR cookies will be good for 90 days at least. According to Barnes & Noble the average romance novel buyer will buy 15 or more novels over a year. Many in the publishing ebook industy offer very short term 48 hour cookies, So if you refer someone you will probably get their first sale, but not the next 14. Having contacted them, we decided that if and when we get to that point we'll use the American Marketing Association's industry normal best practices for affiliate sales which is 90% over a buyer's average in a given year. THAT is the "Best Practice" general rule on the internet. Yes, we do realize amazon offers a 24 hour cookie. The difference there is Amazon NO LONGER NEEDS affiliates. The struggling publishing industry does. Big difference.
How long does my book need to be in order to submit it to you?
Well, another good question. Word count varies depending on your audience. For instance word count is typically lower in every classification for young adults, childrens books even more. It also depends on the editor of the publisher your trying to satisfy and many have their own definitions. This is Romance though so we'll simply go with the wiki definition modified slightly. Novel over 40,000 words
Novella 17,500 to 40,000 words,
Novelette 7,500 to 17,500 words,
Short story under 7,500 words and preferably 5,000 to 7,500. Really anything under 5,000 words is a tease but workable for really sweet material. These are guidelines only for your reference.
I am a new author. How much should I price my book?
WOW! You guys are just full of good questions. The standard answer would be whatever you think you can get for it and generate enough sales to maximize your return on investment structure. What we suggest is to look at some of the bigger publishers and get an idea of what your's should sell for based on genre, word count and style. Or, get the advice of another author who's read your works and can better advise you. You can always go low then raise your price or goe high then lower it if it's not selling. It's completely up to you.
Why should I list my books on YOUR site?
You write. We write. WE do it for a couple reasons. One, we have a need, a compulsion to share our stories, our fantasies with others. Two, it would be sweeeeet to actually make good money doing it. Does it hurt you to list your books on more than one site? Or, more than the few you or your publisher already are listing them on? No. It doesn't. Theres simply no logical reason NOT to market yourself in every possible venue while remaining true to your core beliefs. Publishers who tell you otherwise are trying to control YOU and not step on the toes of other publishers, resellers and digital content providers they've an unwritten agreement with. You want to make more money? Place your books on our site also. It's really that simple. YOU also have to ask yourself something. Why is someone trying to limit your sales? For your own good perhaps? Perhaps they feel you don't NEED more money, or your 'work' exposed' to more readers. OMG. Really! Do you believe that? Are you serious? I"m sure they're limiting the venues to sell YOUR books is just them looking out for you. My advice? Do what your heart tells you to do. It's always worked for me. Sometimes good, sometimes bad. Always interesting.
